Georgetown Athletics Announces 2023-24 Awards

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Department of Athletics announced the recipients of its four major department awards for the 2023-24 academic year on Thursday.  Four programs were honored as GU released its awards for Outstanding Achievement by a Female Athlete, Outstanding Achievement by a Male Athlete, Outstanding Coaching Achievement as well as the Robert A. Duffey Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
Robert A. Duffey Scholar-Athlete Award
The Robert A. Duffey Scholar-Athlete Award is presented each year to the Georgetown senior who best exhibits excellence in both academics and athletics.
Christian Ficca - Baseball
  • Ficca served as team captain in his final year on the Hilltop and had a historic year for the Blue & Gray. The Chevy Chase, Maryland native was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year in 2024 and is just the second Hoya to ever win the award and fifth to ever win a BIG EAST major award.
  • The senior was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, the  All-ECAC Team and also earned a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-East Region Second Team.
  • Ficca boasted a .344 batting average while tallying 77 hits, 15 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs and 64 RBIs. Ficca's 64 RBIs ranks second in a single season in program history and the senior finished his Hoya career in the 150-hit club, the 100 RBI club and the 100 runs scored club.
  • Georgetown had one of its most successful seasons as a program winning a program-best 36 games en route to the programs first ever BIG EAST Championship game appearance.
  • After graduating, Ficca signed a professional contract with the New York Boulders of the Frontier League. Ficca is one of two players from the 2024 squad that is currently playing in the professional ranks joining classmate Everett Catlett who was drafted in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies.
  • He is the first baseball player to win the award since John Lacci in 1974.
 
Outstanding Achievement by a Female Athlete
Chloe Scrimgeour – Women's Track & Field / Cross Country
  • Scrimgeour continued her impressive career tallying her fifth All-America honor and fourth BIG EAST Championship this past season.
  • The West Hartford, Connecticut native picked up four First Team All-America honors during the 2023-24 season with top eight finishes in cross country, indoor track (3,000m & 5,000m) and outdoor track (10,000m) at the NCAA Championships.
  • Off of the track, Scrimgeour is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic selection (2022,2023) and a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country First Honors recipient.
  • Scrimgeour gives back to the community by volunteering for the Shoe Drive organized by the More Foundation Group and serving as an active board member for the Georgetown Psychology DEI Committee.
  • She is a senior pursuing a degree in psychology.
 
Outstanding Achievement by a Male Athlete
Parker Stokes - Men's Track & Field
  • Stokes was the 2024 NCAA Champion in the Outdoor Steeplechase, a four-time All-American in the event, and a nine-time BIG EAST Champion.
  • Earlier this week, he was selected as the 2023-24 BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
  • The Endicott, New York native earned the title of 2022 Mid-Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year (Men's Cross Country) and was named the 2022 BIG EAST Outstanding Track Performer for Indoor (1st in the Mile; 1st in the 4x800m relay).
  • Off the track, Stokes excelled academically, making the Dean's List and earning spots on both the USTFCCCA Track & Field and Cross Country All-Academic Team and the BIG EAST All-Academic Team for three-consecutive years.
  • Stokes gave back to the community by volunteering for the Shoe Drive organized by the More Foundation Group.
  • He graduated with his master's degree in management and business administration.
 
Outstanding Coaching Achievement
Swimming & Diving Coaching Staff – Jack Leavitt, Sam Milligan, Jacob Miner, Ceallach Gibbons
  • In 2024, Leavitt guided the men's swim and dive team to their third straight BIG EAST Championship.
  • Leavitt and his staff earned BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time.
  • They also won BIG EAST Male Diving Coach of the Year.
