No. 16 Georgetown Hosts No. 18 UNC Greensboro in Home Opener

WASHINGTON - The No. 16 Georgetown University men's soccer team will welcome the No.18 UNC Greensboro Spartans to Shaw Field on Friday afternoon for the team's 2024 home opener. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Georgetown men's soccer alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser back in the broadcast booth for their 20th season.

About the Hoyas
  • On Monday, freshman forward Mitchell Baker was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll when the BIG EAST Conference announced its first weekly awards of the 2024 season.
  • Baker scored two goals in Georgetown's 2-0 victory over the University of Maryland on Sunday evening in College Park, Maryland.
  • He started in both games for the No. 16/11 Hoyas who went 1-1.
  • The goals were the first two of his intercollegiate career and the first two of the season for the Blue & Gray.
  • The tally in the third minute also proved to be the game winner.
  • Friday will be GU's first ranked opponent of the season and also begins a three-match homestand for the Blue & Gray.
  • The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 18 in the TopDrawerSoccer Poll.
About the Spartans
  • UNCG is off to a 2-0 start after prevailing 3-0 over USC Upstate last Thursday and 1-0 against Coastal Carolina on Sunday.
  • Following the two victories at home, the Spartans broke into the United Soccer Coaches Poll on Tuesday at No. 18 in the nation. It's the first national ranking for UNCG since appearing at No. 10 in the 2023 preseason poll.
  • UNCG was selected to finish third in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Poll following voting completed by the league's six head coaches. UNCG received one first-place vote.
  • Senior midfielder Basile Marc and sophomore Arnaud Tattevin were named to the 11-member All-SoCon preseason team.

  • The last meeting was a 3-0 Georgetown victory during the 2010 season in the NCAA Tournament First Round at Shaw Field.
