Georgetown Closes Nonconference Slate With 1-0 Win at Princeton

WASHINGTON – The RV Georgetown University women's soccer defeated the Princeton Tigers 1-0 in Princeton, New Jersey on Sunday evening. With the win, GU improves to 4-1-3 on the year while the Tigers slide to 4-2.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This was a much-needed win on the road for us tonight against a very good Princeton team. In the first half in particular, we had them under some real pressure, and it eventually paid off when Jocelyn Lohmeyer was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Eliza Turner had ice in her veins and tucked it away calmly. For the rest of the game, we managed everything they threw at us and with some luck, could have had another one or two. Have to give credit to Princeton for putting us under pressure but our back line and both of our goalkeepers were exceptional tonight. This win means a lot as we have really challenged ourselves with our nonconference games, and now we turn the page as we start BIG EAST games next weekend. We know we get everyone's best game in conference play and the girls are excited to try to win another BIG EAST Championship."

About the Match
  • The first 20 minutes of the match was very balanced from both sides. Both the Hoyas and Tigers were able to record one shot during that span.
  • GU continued to press the Tigers and in the 35th minute, Jocelyn Lohmeyer was taken down in the box earning the Hoyas' first penalty kick of the season. Eliza Turner stepped up to the spot and smashed one past the Tiger keeper diving to her right giving GU a 1-0 advantage just before the half.
  • In the 56th minute, Maja Lardner flicked a shot on goal off a corner that stretched the Tiger keeper who was just able to push the ball over the crossbar keeping the Hoya lead at one.
  • Both sides continued to battle as GU continued to hold the slim advantage with 15 minutes left in the second half.
  • Georgetown was able to fend off the late Tiger efforts to even the score securing a 1-0 victory to close out the nonconference schedule.
