Head Coach Ed Cooley Participates in First Ever Wizards Coaches’ Clinic

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Men's Basketball Coach Ed Cooley participated in the Washington Wizards first ever coaches' clinic on Saturday morning at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in the District's Ward 8. It was the first event of its kind, combining the Wizards and area college coaches, as the Wizards and Head Coach Brian Keefe played host to numerous coaches from all levels within the DMV.

"I think it's amazing, and I appreciate Coach Keefe and all the coaches coming over to have this," Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "And if this year one - years two, three, four and 20 … I think it's something to establish that gives back to our community and gives back to the people."

Keefe, who headlined the event, was joined by Cooley, Howard's Kevin Blakeney and American's Duane Simpkins.

The goal of the coaching clinic was to enhance coaching skills, increase community engagement and strengthen the foundation for youth development on and off the court.

It was the first ever collaboration for the Wizards and across college-level schools in the District with basketball programs to foster relationships and learnings for coaches across the entire D.C., Virginia, and Maryland region.

"I've been in college coaching for 30+ years, I don't think there's a better talent pool in America, if not the world, than this DMV. It is our goal at Georgetown to try to keep as many kids local who fit, who want an opportunity - not just an educational component - but the basketball aspect, to try to help us restore Georgetown and bring us to national prominence," Cooley added.

The clinic was free and open to all coaches who are supporting athletes at all levels of play— all around the DMV area.
