WASHINGTON – The No. 23 Georgetown University women's soccer team fell to the No. 20 Pepperdine Waves 2-1 on Thursday afternoon. With the setback, Georgetown slides to 3-1-1 on the year while the Waves improve to 4-2-1.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"That was a tough one for us, I don't think we deserved to lose the game, but we certainly didn't do enough to win it. We knew it was going to come down to possibly a mistake or a set piece and they got a great delivery on a corner and powered through it giving them that late advantage. Our set pieces never threatened them as much as we should have, but they are a good team. They beat No. 3 UCLA last week and they are a good soccer playing team. Their midfield was especially good today, and they were able to play in and around us a little too easy for my liking. I know the kids are disappointed, but we don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves as we have another big game on Sunday. It will be a great chance for us to go and get a rebound result. We knew this stretch of four games was going to be hard, but these guys did a really good job of pressing us and they broke our routine. We were never able to really solve it and we moved people around and kind of changed some things, but we never really managed to break through the pressure of their first five players to give us a chance. Credit to them, they came on the road and got a good result. Now we have to regroup and get ready for another big match against Penn State on Sunday."
