WASHINGTON – The No. 23 Georgetown University women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against No. 8/5 Penn State on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. With the tie, GU moves to 3-1-2 on the year while Penn State moves to 5-1-1.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"I have to say, that was the most exciting 0-0 tie I have ever been involved in. I thought both teams were pushing for the win, and we had a number of very good half opportunities. We were just a little bit away from getting something to go in, but they probably had a similar number of situations. Overall, I think a draw is a fair result and I have to give our kids credit because on Thursday, we couldn't grind out a result in a game we probably should have gotten something out of. Today, we stood toe-to-toe with these guys, and we managed to get a positive result which was huge. We didn't want to go into this having a second-consecutive loss. I give the kids a lot of credit and I thought
Lawson Renie and
Emily Royson were great at the back for us. I thought our midfield was good, specifically
Eliza Turner and
Lizzie Heller.
Natalie Means,
Maja Lardner and
Claire Manning were always asking questions of them, and they kept them very honest and on their toes. I am really proud of our effort today and we look forward to facing South Carolina on Thursday."
