Women’s Basketball Hosts Villanova on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will return home and host the Villanova University Wildcats in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (8-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) is coming off of a heartbreaking 74-71 overtime loss at Seton Hall University on Saturday. A last second triple from junior Victoria Rivera sent it into overtime, but the Hoyas could not get the victory in extra time.
  • Rivera led the way with a career-high 26 points, including six from beyond the arc, as well as an impressive four steals.
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom added 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while classmate Siobhan Ryan rounded out those in double figures posting 12 points in the contest.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins was dominant on the glass pulling down a career-best 16 rebounds.
  • For her efforts over the past two contests, Jenkins was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the first time in her career.
  • The senior averaged 14.5 points and an impressive 15.0 rebounds in a two-game week for Georgetown. She also managed 3.0 steals per game to go along with 2.0 blocks.
  • She posted her fourth double-double of the season and her career leading the Hoyas with a career-best 22 points and 14 rebounds in a 64-41 win over Xavier on Monday. She also managed three steals and went 7-8 from the line in the victory.
  • Ransom is second in the league in scoring (19.6 ppg) and leads in assists (4.6 apg) as well as sitting fifth in steals (2.0 spg).
  • Rivera is second on the team averaging 13.0 ppg. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 41, and is second in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 41.4 percent.
  • Jenkins rounds out those averaging in double figures scoring 12.7 ppg with a quartet of double-doubles on the season. She also leads the league on the glass with 10.4 rpg and sits at fifth in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 1.4 per game.
About the Wildcats
  • Villanova is 7-8 on the season and 1-2 in BIG EAST play.
  • In their last outing, the squad fell 83-52 to the No. 7 UConn Huskies at Finneran Pavilion.
  • Jasmine Bascoe led Villanova with 12 points, while Denae Carter had 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Maddie Burke connected on three triples for nine points.
  • Bascoe leads the team with 15.3 ppg, while Maddie Webber is averaging 11.7 ppg to round out those in double figures. Carter leads the squad on the glass with 6.6 rpg.
  • VU was picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. 
Series Info
  • This will be the 77th meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 1980, with Villanova leading the series 52-24.
  • The Hoyas are 14-20 in the series facing the Wildcats at home.
  • The last meeting at McDonough was a tough 62-47 loss a season ago.
  • Jenkins led the way as the lone Hoya in double figures with 13 points in the contest as well as a squad-best eight rebounds.
  • The last Hoya victory at home was a 68-63 triumph during the 2018-19 campaign.
