Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Defeats American

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's and women's swimming & diving teams earned 29 wins en route to a victory over American on Friday afternoon at McCarthy Pool. The men's team downed the Eagles 231-66, while the women's team posted a 197-103 victory.

  • "I am very pleased with our performances today against American. Even during a tough training week, our team performed well on the boards and in the pool. A special shoutout to our divers Nico Santiago and Audrey Dietz for achieving their first NCAA Zone cuts. We are looking ahead to a great matchup next weekend against Villanova. As a familiar BIG EAST foe, they will be ready for us, so we will need to be ready for them."
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The 200 medley relay of Daren Chen, Bailey De Luise, Troy Keen and Tre Cottrell placed first with a time of 1:32.43.
  • Ronan Krauss and Bruno Ribeiro finished first and second in the 1000 free with times of 10:01.29 and 10:07.46, respectively.
  • In the 200 free, Isaac Holtham (1:42.76) and Cottrell (1:43.29) placed first and second.
  • Conor Jellig and Keen earned first and second in the 100 backstroke with times of 52.39 and 53.39.
  • De Luise finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.01, he led a trio of Hoyas that took the podium positions.
  • GU had the top two finishers in the 200 butterfly with Henry Haupt (1:55.75) and Gabe Gonda (1:55.76) coming in on top.
  • In the 50 free, Owen Watkins placed first (20.42) for the Blue & Gray.
  • Chen and Keen captured first and second in the 100 free with times of 47.51 and 47.82, respectively.
  • In the 200 backstroke, Holtham led a trio of Hoyas taking the top three spots as he finished with a 1:52.82.
  • Ben Tunila (2:10.27) was one of three Hoyas to take the top positions in the 200 breaststroke.
  • Gonda earned another first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:47.61, while Ribeiro was right behind coming in at 4:56.06.
  • Watkins captured first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.59, and Chen was second in 50.36.
  • Holtham was first in the 400 IM with a 4:05.66.
  • The 400 free relay of Keen, Cottrell, Jellig and Chen took first clocking a time of 3:10.08.
  • The Hoyas swept the 1m and 3m dives as Nicolas Santiago finished first in the 1m (333.15) and the 3m (344.88).
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The 200 medley relay team of Heidi Wu, Angelica Reali, Madeline Malone and Taplin Seelbach opened with a win in a time of 1:45.41.
  • Camille Weiss then took the top spot in the 1000 free with a 10:19.70.
  • Wu was the top finisher in the 100 backstroke clocking in at 56.91.
  • Bella Dimaculangen placed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.55.
  • The 50 free was won by Malone (23.64), and Seelbach was second (24.57) in the race.
  • Malone and Bridget Kelly took first and second in the 100 freestyle with a 51.57 and 53.37, respectively.
  • In the 200 backstroke, Lila Connor and Allie Sanchez and Maddie Haley took first and second with times of 2:02.94 and 2:08.60. 
  • Caroline Largen (2:28.99) captured first in the 200 breaststroke.
  • In the 500 freestyle, Weiss placed first with a time of 5:04.32.
  • Wu led a trio of Hoyas to take the podium positions in the 400 IM coming in at 4:31.48.
  • The 400 free relay of Malone, Kelly, Conner and Ines Lovato took first with a time of 3:30.45.
  • The Hoyas swept the 1m and 3m dives as Audrey Dietz finished first in both with a 270.00 in the 1m and a 250.58 in the 3m.
