No. 12 Georgetown Downs Villanova
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team downed Villanova 1-0 on Wednesday night at Shaw Field. With the win, GU improves to 13-2-2 overall and 9-0 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova falls to 9-7 and 4-4 in league action.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"It was a tough night. It was a tough game. It was one of those games where we felt we needed to try to get the first goal a little bit earlier, which maybe would encourage them to come out and play a little bit more. Thankfully, you know, Henley scored a great goal early in the second half to put us upon nothing. And we had a lot of good opportunities. We just couldn't really find that final good shot or that final good cross, plenty of opportunities to get something, but that final pass or the final ball really wasn't good enough defensively. I felt we were a little bit nervous at times because they were kind of countering, and we couldn't really get that right balance between staying up on them and getting pressure on them and dropping off and keeping numbers behind the ball. But I have to credit the kids. You know, it was probably an okay performance on the run that we've been on recently, and that's okay, but the most important thing is the three points, the win, and another shutout. So, we get a good 10 days now to rest for our last game, which will be a final, going out to Cincinnati to play a really good Xavier team, and it looks like it's going to be a really good game for all the marbles. So the good thing now is, like I said, we can rest up and try to get a little bit healthier, and we're excited for what's to come."
