Georgetown Advances to the Second Round of NCAA Championships with a 3-0 Victory over Sacred Heart

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team defeated the Sacred Heart Pioneers 3-0 on Friday night at Shaw Field in the first round of the NCAA Championships. With the win, GU will be a host site for the second and third rounds and will face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"I have to give a lot of credit to Sacred Heart. Congratulations to them on a great season and for coming here and having a real good call with us. It would have been very easy for them to kind of just sit back and try and counter and try to make it an ugly game. But I give them a lot of credit. The coaches come out with a game plan to try and play, and they have a couple of good players up front, which I thought we did a good job of managing. Overall, I'm really happy with our performance. We left some goals out there, but I think it was more a matter of bad luck as opposed to bad finishing. To score three, we could have had another few, but credit to their kids for defending well and putting their bodies on the line. But I was really pleased with our group. I thought our best player was Shay, who was exceptional on both sides of the ball. For us, any of our attacking players were just asking questions of them all through the game. And the most important thing is we got the win. It's the first NCAA win here under the lights on Shaw Field. So the kids are excited about that, and now we get ready for our next game on Thursday against West Virginia. We're super excited about the opportunity to keep playing, and tomorrow, we'll be one of 32 teams in the country still playing."
