Georgetown Men’s Basketball Hosts Xavier on Saturday Night

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host the Xavier University Musketeers on Saturday, December 20 at Capital One Arena. Tipoff in the District is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET at the Blue & Gray's downtown home.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The 2025-26 season marks the third year under Head Coach Ed Cooley. In his second season, Cooley guided Georgetown to doubling its wins from the season before and finishing with an overall record of 18-16 and 8-12 in BIG EAST play. The squad earned a bid to the inaugural College Basketball Crown, advancing to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual Crown Champions Nebraska.
  • In the last outing, Georgetown defeated Marquette in its conference opener Wednesday evening, 78-69, at Fiserv Forum. Julius Halaifonua led a quintet of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points on 70.0% (7-10) shooting from the field while adding a squad-best six rebounds. Jeremiah Williams made his first start of the season and scored a season-best 15 points on 62.5% (5-8), while Malik Mack posted 13 points on 5-for-12 shooting. J. Williams and Mack combined for 10 assists, with each dishing out a squad-best five assists. Caleb Williams tallied 11 points on 50%  (4-8) shooting, while Langston Love rounded out those in double figures with 10 points on 40.0% shooting and pulling down a team-high six boards.
  • A quintet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Mack who is tallying 14.6 ppg, while Lewis averages 14.2 ppg, Vince Iwuchukwu scores 11.8 ppg, C. Williams manages 11.7 ppg and Halaifonua notches 11.3 ppg. Mack's 14.6 ppg ranks ninth in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • C. Williams leads the Hoyas on the glass with 5.9 rpg, followed by Lewis (5.6 rpg) and Halaifonua (5.3 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.5 apg, which ranks fourth in the league, followed by Lewis (2.9 apg) and Jeremiah Williams (2.7 apg).
  • Lewis leads the BIG EAST and the Hoyas in strips with 2.3 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS
  • Xavier enters the matchup with a 8-4 start to the 2025-26 season and an 0-1 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • Xavier went 22-12 during the 2024-25 season with a 13-7 mark in league action.
  • In its last outing, Xavier fell to Creighton on Wednesday at Cintas Arena, 98-57. Malik Messina-Moore tallied 14 points, Roddie Anderson III added a 12 piece and Pape N'diaye chipped in 10 to round out those in double figures. Messina-Moore grabbed a squad-best five rebounds while Flip Borovicanin paced the Musketeer offense with six assists.
  • Tre Carrol leads Xavier in scoring, averaging 16.1 ppg. Anderson III follows averaging 12.6 ppg. Jovan Milicevic averages 11.8 ppg while All Wright rounds out those averaging double figures with 10.2 ppg.
  • Borovicanin leads the Musketeers on the glass, grabbing 7.1 rpg.
  • Borovicanin's 4.2 apg paces the Musketeer offense.
  • Xavier is led by Head Coach Richard Pitino in his first season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Xavier will meet for the 30th time in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 7-22 record in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was February 4, 2025 with the Blue & Gray falling 74-69 at Cintas Center in Cincinnati. Micah Peavy, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 27 points on 57.9% (11-19) shooting while Thomas Sorber, now with the defending NBA Champions Oklahoma City Thunder, chipped in 17 and Mack added 13.
  • Cooley maintains an 11-14 record against the Musketeers and a 0-1 mark against Richard Pitino from a 2017 matchup between Providence and Minnesota.
