Hoyas to Compete in Four Games at the Carolina Classic

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team is set to return to action on February 22-23 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the Carolina Classic. The Hoyas will play three games in two days after inclement weather rearranged the original schedule. The Hoyas enter the Carolina Classic with a 3-2 record after competing at the CSU Kickoff in Charleston, South Carolina, from February 7-9.

GU will begin the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, February 22, at 10:30 a.m. against Queens (N.C.) before taking on the Wagner Seahawks at 12:45 p.m. The Blue & Gray will cap off its weekend with a game against West Georgia at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.

About the Hoyas
·    Georgetown is entering the Carolina Classic with a 3-2 record following a 3-2 weekend at the CSU Kickoff from February 7-9. 
·   The Hoyas picked up two wins against Bellarmine and a win against Charleston Southern to finish the CSU Kickoff with a winning record.
·   In its first game of the season, GU defeated Bellarmine by a score of 7-1 before defeating Bellarmine again the following day 8-4. The next game, the Blue & Gray offense exploded for 15 runs to defeat the host Charleston Southern Buccaneers, 15-7.
·   Claire Turner enters the weekend with a .375 batting average (6-16). Turner tallied two doubles, one home run, and seven RBIs to her stat line. Turner was second-team All-BIG EAST a season ago.
.   Dani Koo is fresh off winning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week in her first collegiate weekend series. Koo hit .316 (6-19) with her first collegiate home run coming in a win over Bellarmine. Koo had two home runs, three RBIs, and five runs scored at the CSU Kickoff. 
.   Kayla Dunn has tallied two of the three wins for the Hoyas this season. Dunn has a 3.82 earned run average (ERA) over 11 innings with nine strikeouts. Julia Parker has pitched to a 2.86 ERA over 7.1 innings this season.
·   Georgetown is led by Head Coach Karla Ross, who is in her first season with the Hoyas. She is assisted by Kamryn Dolby.

About the Queens University of Charlotte Royals
·   Georgetown will face Queens (N.C.) on Saturday, February 22 at 10:30 a.m. to begin the weekend.
·   This will be the first-ever matchup between the two schools.
·   The Royals sit at 2-2 on the season following a 3-0 win against the College of Charleston on February 18.
.   Queens (N.C.) is coming off of a 29-26 record with a 12-12 mark in conference action a year ago.
 
About the Wagner Seahawks
·   Georgetown will play one game against Wagner College on Saturday, February 22 at 12:45 p.m.
·   The Hoyas lead the all-time series against the Seahawks 2-1, with the most recent victory coming on February 18, 2023, where GU shut out Wagner 6-0.
·   Friday's contest will be the first of the season for Wagner, who is coming off of an 8-30 season in 2024.

About the West Georgia Wolves
·   Georgetown will play West Georgia on Sunday, February 23 at 11:15 a.m.
·   This will be the first-ever matchup between the two schools.
·   West Georgia has a record of 3-2 on the season following their competition at the Running Bulldog Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C.
.   The Wolves are coming off of a 20-33 season a year ago.
