Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to Hartford to Face UConn

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will head Hartford, Connecticut on Wednesday, February 26 to face the University of Connecticut Huskies. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1 with Alex Faust calling the play-by-play and Donny Marshall providing analysis. Georgetown enters Wednesday's contest with a 16-11 record and a 7-9 mark in league action following a 80-69 defeat at Creighton on Sunday at CHI Health Center Omaha.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Sunday night, Georgetown fell to the Creighton Bluejays 80-69 in a conference matchup at CHI Health Center Omaha. Jayden Epps led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 22 points on an 8-for-14 effort from the floor. The junior also added two rebounds, an assist and a steal while sinking four 3-pointers. Micah Peavy (20) and Malik Mack (15) rounded out those in double figures for the Hoyas. The Blue & Gray shot 38.5% (25-65) from the floor and 36.4% (12-33) from three.
  • For his efforts last week, Peavy was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 25.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 5.5 apg and 5.0 spg in a 1-1 week for the Blue & Gray.
  • It was announced early Tuesday that after suffering an injury to his left foot on Saturday, February 15, freshman Thomas Sorber would undergo surgery on Wednesday, February 26 with a full recovery expected. Sorber will not play for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
  • Peavy leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures posting 16.1 ppg, a mark that is seventh in the BIG EAST. Sorber chips in 14.5 ppg, followed by Mack (12.7 ppg) and Epps (12.7 ppg). Georgetown and Marquette are the only institutions with four players among the top 30 in scoring in the league.
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass pulling down 8.5 rpg, which is tied for first in the league, followed by Peavy (5.7 rpg) and Drew Fielder (5.4 rpg).
  • Mack Paces the offense dishing out 4.5 apg, a mark that ranks tied for seventh in the BE.
  • Peavy is tied for sixth in the country and leads the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 2.56 pockets per game.
  • Sorber's eight double-doubles are tied for the league lead and are tied for second in the nation among freshmen, behind Derik Queen (Maryland) who has 10.
  • Defensively, the team is second in the league in scoring defense, allowing an average of 66.9 ppg. GU ranks third in the BIG EAST and 37th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (40.8%). The Hoyas are third in the league in steals per game (8.3) and are forcing opponents to commit 14.00 turnovers per game, which ranks fourth in the conference.
 
ABOUT THE HUSKIES
  • In its most recent outing, UConn (18-9, 10-6 BE) fell to the St. John's Red Storm 89-75 on Sunday, February 23 in New York. Alex Karaban led the Husky offense with 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field. Solo Ball (15), Tarris Reed Jr. (15) and Liam McNeeley (14) rounded out the Huskies in double figures. Hassan Diarra paced the offense with six assists. McNeeley led the squad on the glass pulling down a team-best nine boards. UConn shot 39.0% (23-59) from the field.
  • McNeeley leads a trio of Huskies averaging double figures posting 15.3 ppg, followed by Ball (14.7) and Karaban (14.2).
  • Reed Jr. leads UConn on the glass pulling down 6.9 rpg, followed by McNeeley (6.7 rpg).
  • UConn is led by Dan Hurley who is in his seventh season at the helm of the Huskies.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH UCONN
  • Wednesday's matchup will be the second meeting this season and the 76th all-time meeting between the two sides dating back to the 1958-59 season. UConn leads the all-time series 36-39.
  • In the matchup earlier this season, Curtis Williams Jr. led a pair of Hoyas in double figures as he tallied 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting off the bench and a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the charity stripe. Micah Peavy was the other Hoya in double figures, tallying 14 points.
  • Head Coach Ed Cooley is 4-10 against UConn in his career and is 8-7 all-time against Dan Hurley.
