WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team is set to return to action from February 28 to March 2 in Lynchburg, Virginia for the Liberty Softball Invitational. The Hoyas will play five games in three days. The Hoyas enter the weekend with a 6-2 record after going 3-0 at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina from February 21-23.
GU will begin the weekend on Friday, February 28, at 10 a.m. against the Drexel Dragons before taking on the host Liberty Flames at 2 p.m. The Blue & Gray will return to action on Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. for a rematch with Drexel before taking on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at noon. The Hoyas will cap off their weekend with a matchup against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Sunday, March 2.

About the Hoyas
·   Georgetown is entering the Liberty Softball Invitational with a 6-2 record following a 3-0 weekend at the Carolina Classic from February 21-23

·  The Hoyas picked up wins against Queens (N.C.), Wagner and West Georgia this past weekend. The Blue & Gray outscored its opponents 24-6.
·  GU defeated Queens (N.C.) by a score of 8-1 before defeating Wagner 6-1. The Hoyas capped off its weekend by scoring 10 runs, defeating West Georgia 10-4.

Gabby Park enters the weekend with a .471 batting average (8-17), ranking second in the BIG EAST. Park leads the conference in on-base percentage, reaching safely at a .571 clip.

Emily Strittmatter is fresh off earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after her performance at the Carolina Classic. The sophomore went 3-for-7 with two homers, two RBIs, four walks and six runs scored. Strittmatter had the first multi-homerun game of her collegiate career against Queens (N.C.), going 2-for-2 with two homers, two walks, and four runs scored in that contest.        Â

Kayla Dunn has three wins for GU this season. The graduate student has a 2.67 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched.Â

Sage Hager threw a complete game against West Georgia on Sunday, going 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits while not allowing a walk.

About the Drexel Dragons
·
        Georgetown will play two games against Drexel on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1.
·      Drexel leads the all-time series 5-3. Georgetown's most recent victory against the Dragons came on April 10, 2014, when the Hoyas defeated the Dragons 7-3.
·      Drexel is 0-10 on the season, after going 0-5 at the UNC Tournament from February 13-15.

About the Liberty Flames
·      Georgetown will take on the host Liberty Flames on Friday, February 28 at 2 p.m.
·      The Hoyas are 3-3 all-time against the Flames, with the last matchup between the two schools coming on February 28, 2016, where GU defeated Liberty, 8-0 in six innings.Â
·      Liberty is off to a 12-4 start, with its most recent matchup being a 9-0 defeat against No. 15 Virginia Tech.
.     Liberty is coming off a 38-25 season with a 19-5 mark in conference action a season ago. The Flames were Conference USA tournament champions and went to the NCAA tournament in 2024.

About the Lehigh Mountain Hawks
·      Georgetown will play Lehigh on Saturday, March 1 at noon.
·      The Hoyas are 1-3 all-time against Lehigh, with their win being a 4-3 victory on February 26, 2012.
·      Lehigh is 2-8 on the season after a 1-4 weekend at the Charlotte Invitational.
.     The Mountain Hawks are coming off of a 32-20 season a year ago.
