Hoyas Open 2025 Campaign at CSU Kickoff

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team is set to open its 2025 season this weekend at the Charleston Southern Kickoff in Charleston, South Carolina. The Hoyas will be joined by three other schools competing in the event, including Bellarmine, Siena College and Charleston Southern. 

GU will begin the weekend on Friday, February 7, at 10 a.m. against Bellarmine before taking on Siena College at 12:30 p.m. The Blue & Gray will play another two games on Saturday, February 8, first with a rematch against Bellarmine at 10 a.m. and then they will take on the host Charleston Southern Buccaneers at 3 p.m. Georgetown will conclude the tournament on Sunday, February 9, at 10:30 a.m. against Siena.

About the Hoyas

·       Georgetown is coming off a 14-33 2024 season where it went 4-20 in conference play.

·       The Hoyas return junior outfielder and Second Team All BIG EAST honoree Claire Turner along with junior Dayanara Campos, who had the second most home runs in a single season in program history just a year ago.

·       GU welcomed four freshmen (Dani Koo, Maggie Howard, Nina Sarlo, Emily Collins) and two graduate transfers (Sage Hager, Sammy Fenton) to the team this spring.

·       Graduate students Julia Parker and Sage Hager along with seniors Kayla Dunn and Avery Wissmar will lead the GU rotation this upcoming season.

·       Georgetown is led by Head Coach Karla Ross who is in her first season with the Hoyas. She is assisted by Kamryn Dolby.

About the Bellarmine Knights

·       Georgetown will play two games against the Knights in the CSU Kickoff. 

·       Friday's contest will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools

·       Bellarmine is coming off of a 13-32-1 season and a 5-17-1 mark in the Atlantic Sun.

About the Siena Saints

·       Georgetown will play two games against Siena College in the CSU Kickoff. Friday's contest will be the third all-time meeting between the two schools. 

·       The Hoyas are 0-2 against the Saints all time. The last meeting between the two teams came on March 17, 2013, with Georgetown falling 7-6.

·       Siena is coming off a historic season where they went 33-22 with a 12-11 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Saints are the reigning MAAC champions and earned a berth in the 2024 NCAA tournament for the first time in their program's history.

About the Charleston Southern Buccaneers

·       Georgetown will play just one game against the host Buccaneers this weekend. Saturday's matchup will be the third ever meeting between the two schools.

·       The Hoyas are 1-1 all-time against CSU, with the Hoyas winning the most recent matchup 3-1 on March 10, 2019.

·       Charleston Southern finished 23-27 last season, with a 9-9 mark in the Big South.
