WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's track & field program concluded competition on Saturday, February 8, at the Penn Collegiate Classic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts.
In Boston, Abel Teffra shattered the school record in the mile and surged to seventh on the NCAA all-time list with an impressive time of 3:52.44 and Ochan claimed victory in the 200m with a time of 23.94, the second-fastest mark in Georgetown indoor history.
"What a day in Georgetown Track & Field History!! For our Men's Mile School Record to get broken twice during the Indoor Season, with the latest coming in the 7th fastest time in NCAA history is mind blowing. Abel had shown the potential for this to occur after running the 2nd fastest 1K Indoor in NCAA history a few weeks back, but the manner in which he ran 3:52.44 to win convincingly was very special. Testament to his hardwork...huge congrats to Abel & Coach Bonsey for this amazing feat. Also pleased to see some strong performances at UPenn with freshman Paris Coleman continuing to show promise. Her consistency in both the LJ & 60mH led being a finalist in both events running very close to her PB in the 60mH. Rebecca Ochan ran an impressive 23.94 in her season opener at 200m to record the 2nd fastest time in school history. On the Men's side, Sophomore Roberto Terrell had a PB in the Long Jump (7.15m) and we're excited to see his progress in this event. Freshman Aaron Guillaume has started coming into his own and had PBs in both the 60m (6.96) and 200m (21.57) in his season opener for that event. The level of intensity increases as we get further into February and we're excited to see what's to come for our Men & Women in the coming weeks." - Head Coach Alton McKenzie
