Softball Hosts Harvard in Home Opener

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team will play its first home game of the season against the Harvard Crimson at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18. The Hoyas enter Tuesday's contest with an 8-11 record and a 0-6 mark in BIG EAST play.

  • Due to construction in the primary parking lot, all attendees for Wednesday's game will be required to utilize street parking. Parking on Ely Place will be commonplace.

About the Hoyas

  • Georgetown enters Tuesday's contest with an 8-11 overall record after dropping three games to St. John's this past weekend in Queens, New York.
  • Over three games against the Red Storm, Claire Turner posted an impressive .571/.667/.714 slash line. The junior went 4-for-7, reaching base six times in nine plate appearances, while adding a double, a stolen base, and five runs scored.
  • Dayanara Campos is tied for first in the BIG EAST in home runs, totaling three in six conference games. The junior has tallied five homers and 18 RBIs on the season.
  • Abby Kozo leads the Hoyas in batting average, hitting .368 on the season. Emily Strittmatter follows Kozo with a .321 average.     
  • Kayla Dunn leads the squad with four wins on the season. The graduate student has a 4.67 earned run average through 36.1 innings of work.
  • Georgetown is led by Head Coach Karla Ross who is in her first season with the Hoyas. She is assisted by Kamryn Dolby.

About the Crimson

  • Harvard enters Tuesday's contest with a 9-4 record on the season after going a perfect 4-0 in a West Coast trip in California. The Crimson swept both the Santa Clara Invitational in Santa Clara, California and the Saint Mary's Tournament in Moraga, California to round out a perfect weekend.
  • Sophie Sun powered Harvard's offense, going 10-for-15 with four RBIs and seven runs scored. The sophomore is the reigning Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year.
  • On the season, Sun leads Harvard with a .522 average (24-46), followed by Priyanka Kaul at .351.
  • In the circle, Riley Flynn leads Harvard with three wins on the season. The junior has a 2.08 ERA across 30.1 innings.

  • Georgetown has won the lone matchup between the two teams. 
  • The Hoyas defeated the Crimson 3-0 on March 2, 2019 in the District Classic at Washington Nationals Youth Academy behind a complete game shutout from sophomore London Diller.
