Softball Hosts Villanova for a Three Game Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team will host Villanova for a three-game series March 21-23 at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Hoyas enter the series with an 8-12 record overall and a 0-6 mark in BIG EAST play while the Wildcats sit at 12-14 on the season with a 4-2 mark in conference action.

About the Hoyas

  • The Hoyas enter the weekend with an 8-12 record following a 2-0 loss to Harvard in its home opener at Nats Academy.
  • Kayla Dunn was sensational on the mound for the Hoyas. The graduate student went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out one.
  • In BIG EAST play this past weekend, Claire Turner went 4-for-7 with a double and five runs scored. The junior had a slash line of .571/.667.714.
  • Dayanara Campos and Emily Strittmatter are both tied for third in the conference with five homers apiece. 
  • Strittmatter also ranks seventh in the BIG EAST in slugging percentage at .661.

About the Wildcats

  • The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 12-14 record following a 3-1 loss at St. Joseph's (Pa.) on Wednesday. 
  • Miranda Runco was responsible for the only RBI for the Wildcats, tallying a solo homerun.
  • Runco entered in relief and pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one.
  • On the season, Runco leads Villanova with a .373 average, followed by Ana Franz who sits at .288.
  • Inside the circle, Kat Gallant leads VU with six wins. Gallant has posted a 4.09 ERA across 66.2 innings thus far.
  • Villanova is led by Bridget Orchard who is in her seventh season at the helm of the Wildcats. She is assisted by Gabby Luety and Grace Fagan.
