Hoyas Host Holy Cross in Home Opener

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team will play its first home game of the season against the Holy Cross Crusaders at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5. The Hoyas enter Wednesday's contest with an 8-5 record.

  • Due to construction in the primary parking lot, all attendees for Wednesday's game will be required to utilize street parking. Parking on Ely Place will be commonplace.
About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown enters Wednesday's contest with an 8-5 overall record after a 2-3 weekend at the Liberty Softball Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia.
  • The Hoyas picked up two wins against Drexel (15-9), (16-4). The 16 runs scored on March 1 against Drexel was a new season high in runs.
  • Dayanara Campos is fresh off earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after her performance at the Liberty Softball Invitational. In five games, the junior hit .400 (6-15) with a homerun, two doubles, seven RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Emily Strittmatter leads the team in batting average at .361, with Gabby Park right behind her at .353.
  • Strittmatter currently leads the BIG EAST in slugging percentage at .778. The sophomore has tallied four home runs thus far, a mark that is tied for second in the conference.       
  • Kayla Dunn leads the squad with four wins on the season. The graduate student has a 4.50 ERA in 28 innings pitched thus far. 
  • Georgetown is led by Head Coach Karla Ross who is in her first season with the Hoyas. She is assisted by Kamryn Dolby.
About the Crusaders
  • Holy Cross enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-3 record on the season after sweeping a doubleheader from Saint Peter's on Saturday, March 1.
  • The Crusaders are coming off of a 14-35 season a year ago.
  • Emma Fong currently leads Holy Cross with a .417 batting average, followed by Jordan Goedel with a .364 batting average.
  • Holy Cross is led by Jon Ladino who is in his first season at the helm of Holy Cross. He is assisted by Christine Acker and Meghan Gorman.
