Softball Heads to Seton Hall for First BIG EAST Series of the Season

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team will head to South Orange, New Jersey from March 7-9 to take on the Seton Hall Pirates in the Hoyas' first BIG EAST series of the season. The Hoyas enter the series with an 8-5 record, after going 2-3 at the Liberty Softball Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia.

About the Hoyas

·       Georgetown enters the weekend with an 8-5 overall record after a 2-3 weekend at the Liberty Softball Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia.

·       Wednesday's contest against Holy Cross was cancelled due to inclement weather. The game will not be made up at a later date.

·       The Hoyas picked up two wins at the Liberty Softball Invitational from February 28 to March 2, both against Drexel (15-9), (16-4). The 16 runs scored on March 1 against Drexel was a new season high in runs.

·       Dayanara Campos is fresh off earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after her performance at the Liberty Softball Invitational. In five games, the junior hit .400 (6-15) with a homerun, two doubles, seven RBIs and three runs scored.

·       Emily Strittmatter leads the team in batting average at .361, with Gabby Park right behind her at .353.

·       Strittmatter currently leads the BIG EAST in slugging percentage at .778. The sophomore has tallied four home runs thus far, a mark that is tied for second in the conference.       

·       Kayla Dunn leads the squad with four wins on the season. The graduate student has a 4.50 ERA in 28 innings pitched thus far. 

·       Georgetown is led by Head Coach Karla Ross who is in her first season with the Hoyas. She is assisted by Kamryn Dolby.

About the Pirates

·       Seton Hall enters conference play with a 6-9 record on the season after defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 4-2 in a midweek series. 

·       Seton Hall was led by Kelsey Carr, who went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out three.

·       Carr also led SHU's offense, going 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI's.

·       Hannah Alexander currently leads the Pirates with a .359 batting average, followed closely by Andrea Perez with a .356 batting average.

·       Seton Hall is led by Angie Churchill who is in her fourth season at the helm of the Pirates. She is assisted by Laura Messina and Emily Schaffer.

Series History

·       Seton Hall leads the all-time series against the two teams 26-13.

·       The last time the two teams had a three-game series was March 15-17, where Seton Hall swept Georgetown.

·       The last time the Hoyas beat the Pirates was on March 18, 2023, with the Hoyas securing a 10-1 victory.
