Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to Chicago to Close the Regular Season at DePaul

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will travel to Chicago, Illinois to face the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday, March 8. Tipoff at Wintrust Arena is slated for 2 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on FS1 with Chris Vosters calling the play-by-play and LaPhonso Ellis providing analysis. Georgetown enters Saturday's contest with a 17-13 record and a 8-11 mark in league action following a 75-73 victory over Villanova on Tuesday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Tuesday night, Georgetown completed a regular season sweep of Villanova securing a 75-73 victory in a conference matchup at Capital One Arena. This is the first time Georgetown has swept Villanova in a pair of regular season games since the 1992-1993 season when GU won 66-56 on the road (01/16/1993) and secured a 61-52 win at home (02/17/1993). Jayden Epps led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor. Micah Peavy (19), Jordan Burks (14) and Malik Mack (10) rounded out those in double figures for GU. The Blue & Gray shot 44.8% (26-58) from the floor, including 14-for-31 (45.2%) from downtown. 
  • It was announced early last week that after suffering an injury to his left foot on Saturday, February 15, freshman Thomas Sorber had surgery on Wednesday, February 26 and a full recovery is expected. Sorber will not play for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
  • Peavy leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures posting 16.5 ppg, a mark that is seventh in the BIG EAST. Sorber chips in 14.5 ppg, followed by Epps (12.8 ppg) and Malik Mack (12.3 ppg).
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass pulling down 8.5 rpg, which is second in the league, followed by Peavy (5.6 rpg) and Drew Fielder (5.2 rpg).
  • Mack Paces the offense dishing out 4.5 apg, a mark that ranks seventh in the BE.
  • Peavy ranks ninth in the country and the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 2.40 pockets per game.
  • Sorber's eight double-doubles are tied for second in the league and are third in the nation among freshmen, behind Derik Queen (Maryland) who has 12.
  • Defensively, the team is fourth in the league in scoring defense, allowing an average of 68.3 ppg. GU ranks third in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage defense (42.0%). The Hoyas are fourth in the league in steals per game (8.1) and are forcing opponents to commit 13.57 turnovers per game, which ranks fourth in the conference.
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEMONS
  • In its most recent outing, DePaul (12-18, 3-16 BE) defeated the Providence Friars 80-77 on Wednesday, March 5 at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. CJ Gunn led a trio of Blue Demons in double figures, tallying 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. JJ Traynor (21) and Isaiah Rivera (11) rounded out those in double figures. DePaul shot 53.6% (30-56) from the field while sinking 41.7% (10-24) from beyond the arc.
  • Gunn leads a duo of Blue Demons averaging double figures posting 12.6 ppg, followed by Rivera (10.3 ppg).
  • NJ Benson leads DePaul on the glass pulling down 6.1 rpg, followed by David Skogman (5.1 rpg).
  • Conor Enright paces the offense, dishing out 6.2 assists per game.
  • DePaul is led by Head Coach Chris Holtmann in his first season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH DEPAUL
  • Saturday's matchup will be the second meeting this season and the 52nd all-time meeting between the two sides dating back to the 1941-42 season. Georgetown leads the all-time series 36-15.
  • In the matchup earlier this season, GU fell to the Blue Demons 73-68 at Capital One Arena. Mack and Fielder led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 19 points apiece. Mack was 8-for-15 from the field, draining 3-of-6 3-pointers, to go along with a squad-best six assists. Caleb Williams and Curtis Williams Jr. rounded out the Hoyas in double figures with 10 points each.
  • Head Coach Ed Cooley is 19-7 against DePaul in his career and is 5-3 all-time against Chris Holtmann.
