WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's track & field program shined at the Penn Relays. The highlight of the final day came from the men's 4x800 relays team, who claimed a first-place finish with a time of 7:13.95.
Head Coach Alton McKenzie
"I'm at a loss for words with the effort from our men and women competing at this year's Penn Relays. Our women were simply amazing in the COA 4x1500m Relay. Their third place finish was the second fastest time in school history. Coach Baker had them prepared and we couldn't be more proud of the quartet that lined up and raced on Saturday. Our men's 4x800 win is a testament to perseverance and resilience. To have Abel Teffra anchor our team to victory couldn't be more fitting. He has experienced the highs and lows of trying to earn that coveted Penn Relays big wheel and he timed his kick perfectly to get us our twelfth Penn Relays victory in the event. Certainly was another great day to be a Hoya. Looking forward to what's to come this post season."
Assistant Coach Brandon Bonsey
"All four legs of that relay executed perfectly. I'm so happy and proud of all of them. I believe Abel is the best middle distance runner in the NCAA. His last 50 meters were world class. It means a lot to our program to bring two wheels back to DC. The overwhelming support from our alums throughout this weekend has been incredible. The support does not go unnoticed."
