WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team has been announced as part of the 2025 Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational, a16-team, three-bracket event set for Thanksgiving week at Walt Disney World Resort's State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The Hoyas were announced as part of the MAGIC BRACKET that also includes BYU, Dayton and Miami. The semifinals will be played on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, while the championship and consolation games will be on Friday, November 28.
ABOUT THE HOYAS
- Georgetown finished the 2024-25 season with an 18-16 overall record and an 8-12 mark in BIG EAST play and advanced to the quarterfinals of the inaugural College Basketball Crown, a single-elimination 16-team postseason tournament.
- In just his second season, Head Coach Ed Cooley led the squad to double the win total from a season ago.
- The season saw the Hoyas earn the #7 seed at the BIG EAST Tournament.
- Micah Peavy was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team while Thomas Sorber was tabbed to the All-BIG EAST Third Team and was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team.
- Peavy led the squad with 17.2 ppg followed by Sorber's 14.5 ppg while Malik Mack rounded out the top three in scoring chipping in 12.9 ppg.
- Sorber and Peavy took the bulk of the work on the glass with Sorber grabbing a team-high 8.5 rpg while Peavy pulled down 5.8 rpg.
- Mack paced the offense dishing out 4.3 apg.
- Sorber and Peavy have declared for the 2025 NBA Draft and the duo was invited to the 2025 NBA Draft Combine, held earlier this month in Chicago, Illinois.
ABOUT BYU
- BYU reached its first NCAA Sweet 16 since 2011, posting a 26-10 record under first year head coach Kevin Young.
- The Cougars finished tied for third in their debut season in the Big 12.
- BYU welcomes the top-ranked recruit in ESPN's Top 100 for the Class of 2025, AJ Dybantsa of Brockton, Massachusetts out of Utah Prep.
- The Hoyas are 1-0 against BYU with a matchup during the 1983-84 season that saw the Hoyas win 67-51 at home. Cooley has never faced BYU.
ABOUT DAYTON
- Dayton won the ESPN Events Invitational in 2011 and 2021, and reached the championship game in 2015.
- The Flyers reached the second round of the 2024 NIT, finishing with a 23-11 record.
- Dayton graduate Anthony Grant is in his ninth year as head coach.
- Georgetown is 2-1 all-time against the Flyers with the last meeting coming in the Elite Eight of the 1984 NCAA Championship, a 61-49 win.
- Cooley has faced Dayton once in his career, a 66-53 setback against the Flyers in the 2015 NCAA Tournament First Round.
ABOUT MIAMI
- Miami will be led by first time head coach Jai Lucas, who spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Duke.
- Lucas replaces the Hurricanes' winningest coach, Jim Larranaga, who led the team to a pair of NCAA Elite Eight appearances.
- Miami last played Thanksgiving weekend in Kissimmee in 2016.
- The Hoyas hold a 19-12 all-time record against Miami, dating back to its time as a member of the BIG EAST Conference. The two squads have split the last six matchups with the Blue & Gray capturing the last three straight, most recently an 80-64 win during the regular season.
- Cooley owns a 1-1 record against the Hurricanes, winning a 2014 matchup before falling in 2022 - both neutral site games.

- This will be the 19th year Walt Disney World hosts the Thanksgiving week college basketball at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and the first time the event has featured three brackets.
