WASHINGTON – Georgetown's Barnes Blake claimed the 124th New Jersey Amateur Championship presented by Provident Bank on Tuesday at Essex County Country Club, the par 71, 6,900 yard course. Blake posted a 4-under par score with rounds of 71, 74, 68 and 67 (280) and secured the title with a clutch three-hole aggregate playoff win over Troy Vannucci. With the victory, Barnes punches his ticket to the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship, scheduled for August 11-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
"I feel like my game has really improved this year and has been trending in the right direction. I came close to winning a few times in the spring season so I knew my game was in a place to win. This week, I came out and played decent the first two rounds and played really great golf the final day to erase the six-shot deficit and come away with the win. I hit many great shots when I needed to yesterday and only made one bogey in all 36 holes which propelled me to victory. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to finally break through and win." - Barnes Blake
Blake began the final day of the New Jersey Amateur sitting at 3-over and six shots off the pace, yet never flinched. He tore through the third round with a bogey-free 68, pouring in three birdies on the outward nine to vault up the board. Riding that momentum into the afternoon finale, the New Jersey native opened with another spotless front nine, added three more birdies, and delivered a decisive eagle on the 334-yard par-4 14th to pull level at 4-under.
A poised three-hole playoff followed, where the Georgetown sophomore would go on to seal the championship. With the win, Blake will compete in the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship in August.
