WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team was picked first in the BIG EAST Conference East Division Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday as the Hoyas were awarded 65 points and 10 first place votes. Additionally, four players earned preseason honors. Senior Zach Zengue, junior Matthew Van Horn and sophomores Mitchell Baker and Tate Lampman were all selected to the preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
 
Zach Zengue
Midfielder
North Oaks, Minn. / Shattuck St. Mary's

• Zengue was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree last year as well as a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-East Region selection.
• He started 19 of the 21 games he appeared in for the Blue & Gray last season.
• Zengue ranked second on the team in scoring with three goals and a squad-high seven assists for 13 points on the year.
• He boasted three multi-point games including two goals against Cornell, a goal and an assist in the win over Providence, and an impressive three assists in the victory over DePaul.
• Zengue was named the Offensive Player of the Week on 10/7 and earned nods to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 9/9 and 10/28.
• As a sophomore, he was selected by the Columbus Crew in the second round with the 29th pick and 58th overall in the MLS Draft.
• This is Zengue's second preseason honor.

Matthew Van Horn
Midfielder
North Pole, Alaska / Shattuck Saint Mary's

• Selected 15th by the Colorado Rapids in the third round of the draft with the 75th overall pick of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.
• Van Horn was a First Team All-BIG EAST and Second Team All-East Region honoree.
• He started 13 of the 21 games he played for the Blue & Gray.
• Led the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for 15 points on the year.
• The North Pole, Alaska native had four game winners, and had a goal and an assist in GU's contest at Villanova.
• Van Horn earned a nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 9/23.
• This is his first preseason honor.

Tate Lampman
Defender
Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer

• Named the 2024 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
• A Third Team All-BIG EAST honoree last season
• Started all 20 games he appeared in and had one goal for two points on the season.
• On defense, he was part of a backline that posted 11 shutouts for a .524 shutout percentage which ranked the squad third in the nation and first in the BIG EAST Conference.
• Lampman was the lone college player on the U.S. U-19 MNT roster for a camp this past summer.
• This is his first preseason honor.

Mitchell Baker
Forward
Melbourne, Australia / Northwood School

• Baker appeared in all 21 games for the Hoyas last season and ranked third on the squad in scoring with 12 points from four goals and as many assists on the year.
• He was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 8/26.
• This is his first preseason honor.

Preseason Poll

• Following Georgetown was Providence with 56 points and the two remaining first-place votes.
• St. John's checked in at third with 45 points, followed by Connecticut with 34. Rounding out the poll with Seton Hall (30) and Villanova (16).
• In the West Division, Akron took the top spot with 65 points and 10 first-place votes, while Creighton was second with 57 points and the remaining two votes.
• Earlier this month, the Hoyas were selected at No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll and No. 14 by Top Drawer Soccer.
