Georgetown Football Opens 2025 Campaign at Davidson

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will open the 2025 season on the road at Davidson College on Saturday, August 30. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM at Davidson College Stadium.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • GU will look to open the 2025 campaign on a winning note, having won seven of its last eight season openers. In the 2024 season opener, the Hoyas knocked off Davidson at home 46-24.
  • The Blue & Gray will be led by captains Jimmy Kibble and GianCarlo Rufo
  • The Hoyas return one 2024 All-Patriot League selection in junior linebacker Rufo. 
  • Kibble and Rufo, along with Cooper Blomstrom were selected to the 2025 Patriot League Preseason All-League Team. 
  • Senior Danny Lauter will get the start as the quarterback for the Hoyas. Last season, Lauter started in 10 games and completed 177-288 passes for 1,871 yards (187.1 passing yards per game) and 11 touchdowns.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Picked eighth in the Pioneer Football League Preseason Poll, the Wildcats finished 6-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play last season.
  • The Wildcats will be led by first-year head coach Saj Thakkar. Thakkar became the 29th head coach in program history after two years at Bentley University, where he went 14-6.
  • Davidson returns all-conference performers Mari Adams (RB), Mason Sheron (RB), Andrew Frazier (WR) and Kyler Herring (OL) from last year's team.
  • Sheron and Herring were selected to the Pioner League Preseason All-Conference Team. 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Georgetown and Davidson are meeting for the 15th time, with the Hoyas holding a 10-4 advantage in the series, having won six of the last seven meetings.
  • The Hoyas and Wildcats last met in the 2024 season opener. GU defeated the Wildcast 46-24 on Cooper Field. 
  • The Blue & Gray earned a 35-14 victory the last time they played at Davidson College Stadium in 2012.
