No. 16 Georgetown Travels to No. 13 Virginia for Sunday Showdown

WASHINGTON - The No. 16/23 Georgetown University women's soccer team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on the No. 13/21 University of Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday, August 31. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

About the Hoyas
  • GU (2-0-1) is coming off an impressive 2-1 road victory against #15 Virginia Tech last Sunday. GU was fueled by Maja Lardner's fourth goal of the season in the first half and Mary Cochran's first tally of the season proved to be the winner against the Hokies.
  • It also marked senior goalkeeper Cara Martin's second win of the week after posting a shutout against Old Dominion.
  • For their efforts, Lardner was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, and Martin was selected as the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
  • After opening the season with a 2-2 draw against Old Dominion, GU stormed to a commanding 4-0 victory over James Madison behind two goals from Lardner, a goal from Henley Tippins and an own goal on the Dukes.
  • Lardner, the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, has recorded four goals through three matches and is leading the conference in goals and points.
  • The Blue & Gray went 13-4-4 in 2024 with a mark of 8-1-1 in BIG EAST Conference action which was good enough to win the regular season championship. The Hoyas boasted two All-America selections and six All-BIG EAST selections including three major award winners. The Blue & Gray advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 13th consecutive season and advanced to the second round before finishing the season receiving votes in the final poll.
  • Georgetown returns 22 players from last season including seven starters from last season.
  • Head Coach Dave Nolan enters his 22nd season at the helm of the Hoyas and boasts a 284-96-65 career record. Nolan and staff were named the 2024 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for the fifth time dating back to 2007.
About the Cavaliers
  • UVA enters the contest with a 4-0 record after securing victories over West Virginia (1-0), Xavier (3-0), Liberty (2-0) and Charlotte (3-0).
  • Lia Godfrey paces the offense with two goals and two assists on the season, good for a team-best six points.
  • In goal, Victoria Safradin has logged all 360 minutes and has yet to allow a goal this season with four clean sheets to her credit.
