Georgetown to Host No. 14 Duke on Friday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will continue its six-match homestand with a matchup against the No. 14 Duke University Blue Devils on Friday evening at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action in their 21st season in the booth.

  • Georgetown (1-2-1) is coming off of a 1-1 tie with the then-No. 1 University of Vermont Catamounts on Monday afternoon at Shaw Field.
  • Mitchell Baker scored his first goal of the season in the 13th minute, but a goal from Vermont in the 86th minute resulted in the draw.
  • For their efforts in the tie, as well as a 1-0 victory over then-No. 3 Pitt on Friday evening, Baker and junior Oliver Stafford were both named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday.
  • Oliver Stafford scored his first-career goal to give the Hoyas the victory. Tate Lampman and Zach Zengue assisted on the goal.
  • The Hoyas had opened the season with a 2-1 loss at High Point as freshman Tim Logan scored GU's first goal of the year in the 88th minute, but it was not enough. GU then fell 1-0 to Maryland in the home opener under the lights at Shaw Field.
  • Georgetown was picked first in the BIG EAST Conference East Division Preseason Coaches Poll as the Hoyas were awarded 65 points and 10 first place votes
  • Four players earned preseason honors as Zengue, junior Matthew Van Horn and Baker and Lampman were all selected to the preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
  • Diego Letayf was selected as a third-year captain, classmate Julian Barrios Cristales joined him being selected by the coaching staff and their teammates to lead the 2025 squad as captains.
  • With the contest this weekend, the Hoyas will have played three-consecutive top-15 opponents.
About the Blue Devils
  • Duke is 2-0-1 on the season with victories over San Diego (2-1) and UC San Diego (1-0), as well as a recent 1-1 tie at Furman.
  • Leonardo D'ambrosio and Kenan Hot both have a goal and an assist on the team for three points on the season.
