No. 4/5 Georgetown Hosts No. 23/20 High Point on Friday

WASHINGTON – The No. 4/5 Georgetown University men's soccer team (4-1-1) will face the No. 23/20 High Point University Panthers in a nonconference matchup at Shaw Field on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Georgetown alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action in their 22nd season in the booth.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas suffered their first loss of the season on Monday falling to No. 2/2 Maryland, 3-2, at Ludwig Field in front of a sellout crowd.
  • GU took the early lead, but the Terps responded with a trio of goals. The Blue & Gray managed one late to make the final 3-2.
  • Earlier in the weekend, Georgetown put together an emphatic 3-0 victory at home against then-No. 10/6 Oregon State.
  • On Tuesday, junior Mitchell Baker was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Baker totaled two goals and an assist against a pair of nationally ranked opponents. He scored twice in Georgetown's 3-0 victory over Oregon State before adding an assist at Maryland.
  • Baker is leading the squad in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points on the season.
  • The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, and No. 5 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
  • Friday marks GU's fourth-consecutive ranked opponent bringing Georgetown's tally of ranked opponents for the year to five so far.
About the Panthers
  • High Point is 2-2-1 on the season with wins over Long Island University (5-2) and then-No. 11 Virginia (3-2).
  • The squad is coming off of a 2-0 loss to then-No. 13 South Carolina on Monday in Columbia.
  • Freshman Nick Sarantakos is leading the team with two goals and as many assists on the season for six points for the year.
  • High Point was picked to win the league in the Big South Conference preseason poll.
  • In addition, the coaches voted HPU's Daniel Lugo as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Koven Johnson as the Preseason Midfielder of the Year, the Panthers' Roman Holt as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and Josh Caron as the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
