Hoyas Host No. 3/4 UConn Huskies on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team hosts the No. 3/4 University of Connecticut Huskies on Saturday at Capital One Arena. Tipoff at GU's downtown home is scheduled for noon.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In the last outing, Georgetown (9-8, 1-5 BE) lost an overtime heartbreaker on the road at Creighton, 86-83. Malik Mack led a quintet of Hoyas with 17 points, while Julius Halaifonua added 16, KJ Lewis chipped in 14, Caleb Williams tallied 12 on a perfect offensive performance (4-4 FG, 2-2 FT) and Vince Iwuchukwu managed 11. Lewis (6), Halaifonua (6) and C. Williams (5) combined for 17 of GU's 32 rebounds. Mack and C. Williams tallied four helpers apiece to pace the Hoya offense.
  • A quintet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 15.0 ppg, followed by Mack (14.4 ppg), Halaifonua (11.2 ppg), C. Williams (10.4 ppg) and Iwuchukwu (10.0 ppg). Lewis and Mack rank ninth and 10th, respectively, in the BIG EAST conference.
  • C. Williams and Lewis lead the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 5.6 rpg, followed by Halaifonua (4.9 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.3 apg, which ranks fifth in the league, followed by Lewis who averages 2.9 apg.
  • Lewis ranks third in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.1 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE No. 3/4 HUSKIES
  • UConn enters the matchup with a 17-1 start to the 2025-26 season, including a 7-0 mark in BIG EAST play, and ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press poll while being tabbed fourth in the coaches poll.
  • The Huskies went 24-11 during the 2024-25 season with a 14-6 mark in the conference.
  • In its last outing, UConn defeated Seton Hall on January 13 at Prudential Center, 69-64. Tarris Reed Jr. led the Huskies in scoring with 21 points, followed by Alex Karaban's 13 points and Braylon Mullin, who chipped in 11. Reed Jr. was UConn's leading rebounder with nine boards, while Karaban pulled down five. Silas Demary Jr. paced the Husky offense with seven assists.
  • Reed Jr. leads a quintet of Huskies in double figures, averaging 14.5 ppg, followed by Solo Ball (14.4 ppg), Karaban (13.9 ppg), Mullins (11.7 ppg) and Demary Jr. (10.1 ppg).
  • Reed Jr. leads UConn on the glass, grabbing 7.6 rpg.
  • Demary Jr.'s 6.7 apg paces the Husky offense.
  • UConn is led by Head Coach Dan Hurley in his eighth season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and UConn will meet for the 77th time in program history, with the Hoyas trailing 40-36 in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was February 26, 2025 with UConn clinching a 93-79 win at home. Micah Peavy, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, posted a game-high 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, including a trio of 3-pointers. Jayden Epps tallied 13 points on five made field goals while Drew Fielder and Jordan Burks chipped in 11 points apiece.
  • Cooley is 4-11 all-time against UConn and sits at an even 8-8 against Hurley in his career.
  • The Hoyas are 5-12 all-time against AP No. 3 with the last meeting coming during the 2020-21 season an 84-74 loss at No. 3 Villanova. The last win against No. 3 was on March 11, 2010 when the 22nd-ranked Hoyas defeated No. 3 Syracuse, 91-84 in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinal. 
  • The Blue & Gray has faced UConn as the No. 3 team two other times - a 77-65 win in the regular season on February 19, 1996 when the Hoyas were ranked No. 11 and a 75-74 loss on March 9, 1996 in the BIG EAST Tournament Final when the Hoyas were tabbed No. 6 in the poll.
