No. 3/5 Georgetown Hosts Providence on Friday

WASHINGTON – The No. 3/5 Georgetown University men's soccer team (8-1-1, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) will face the Providence College Friars in a BIG EAST matchup at Shaw Field on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Georgetown alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action in their 22nd season in the booth.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas are coming off a 3-1 win at then-No. 17/17 Akron last Friday night. The Blue & Gray scored a pair of early goals to hold a comfortable lead. Akron cut it to one early in the second half, but a Hoya goal in the 87th minute sealed the victory.
  • Senior Mateo Ponce Ocampo scored a pair of goals in the contest, while freshman Terrance Reynolds managed two assists in the game.
  • On Monday, senior Matthew Van Horn was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Mateo Ponce Ocampo received a nod to the weekly honor roll for the second week in a row.
  • Van Horn scored in each of Georgetown's two victories, helping the Hoyas finish the week 2-0.
  • He netted the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Evansville before converting a penalty kick in Georgetown's 3-1 road win over No. 17 Akron.

  • The Friars enter Friday's match with a 5-3-1 overall record and a 0-1-0 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • Providence most recently earned a 2-1 victory over crosstown rival Brown on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Friars' scheduled match against Butler on Sept. 26 was postponed due to weather and will be made up at a later date.
  • Brian Garrepy leads Providence with six goals, while Alvaro Maneiro has recorded five.
  • Garrepy and Angelo Ventrella lead the team with 12 points each, while Maneiro has recorded 11 points.
  • Ventrella has registered a team-high eight assists.
