WASHINGTON – Georgetown's men's cross country program brought home its first BIG EAST title since 2018 on Friday morning at the Pole Green Park Cross Country Course in Mechanicsville, Virginia, securing the championship victory with a dominant 33-point performance. The Hoyas showcased incredible pack running, placing all five point scorers within the top 10 of the men's 8K. In the women's 6K championship, Barrett Justema spearheaded the Hoya lineup by capturing the individual title, crossing the line in a cross country personal best of 19:31.5 to help guide the women's squad to a fourth-place team finish (93 points).
"Another great day to be a Hoya. Our men and women laid it all out today. A huge congrats to our individual winner in the women's 6K, Barrett Justema. Our winning streak of titles comes to an end, but still being able to have an individual champion speaks to our tradition of excellence at the conference level and beyond. What can I say about our men winning the team title. Our first since 2018. This one is even more special because of the recent loss of legendary Coach Frank Gagliano. Our men ran an exceptional team race, putting five in the top 10. We certainly had an angel looking down on us today. This one is for Coach Gags. Tremendous effort across the board by both teams, and we are proud of how Coach Baker and Coach Bonsey had their squads prepared to compete today." - Director of Cross Country Alton McKenzie
"That was an excellent team win for the men. We knew exactly what we needed to do in order to win, and they executed to perfection. This one felt extra special after the passing of Coach Gags. I know this means a lot to the entire Georgetown community. We will celebrate this today and then get back to work for the rest of the season." - Head Men's Cross Country Coach Brandon Bonsey
