WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team will head to Newark, Delaware to take on the Delaware Blue Hens in a season-opening double header on Saturday. February 14. Game one will be at noon while game two will be played at 2:30 p.m. The Hoyas and Blue Hens were scheduled to play a game on Friday, February 13 but was canceled due to low temperatures.

ABOUT THE HOYAS

• Last season, the Hoyas finished 11-32 overall and 2-22 in BIG EAST action.
• Head Coach Karla Ross is entering her second season at the helm of the program. Ross is joined by new assistant coach Amelia Lech. 
• The Hoyas will be led by team captains Dayanara Campos, Emily Strittmatter and Abby Kozo. 
• Last season, Strittmatter led GU with 31 runs and nine home runs. 
• GU added three pitchers in freshmen Allison Lui and Catherine Larson and graduate transfer from NYU Marina Egbert.

ABOUT THE BLUE HENS

• The Blue Hens opened the season 1-6 after competing at the FAU Paradise Tournament. Delaware collected an 11-3 victory against Stonehill before falling to Army twice (3-2, 13-0), Indiana (14-2), FAU (4-2) and South Florida (7-0, 8-0).
• Delaware enters 2026 coming off three CAA Regular Season Championships in four years
• seasons. UD had a historic 2025 campaign where it won a CAA record 23 conference games. Delaware is one of eight Division I programs with at least 20 conference wins in each of the last two seasons.
• The Blue Hens return Sydney Shaffer, Katie Scheivert, and Sorella Gallucci. Shaffer set single-season program records in home runs, RBIs, total bases, extra base hits, batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS and was the CAA Player of the Year and East-Region First Team selection. Scheivert and Gallucci are both former all-conference and all-rookie performers. 
• Head Coach Jenn Steele is entering her eighth season at the helm of the program.
