Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to No. 6/5 UConn on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to Storrs, Connecticut to take on the No. 6/5 University of Connecticut Huskies at Gampel Pavilion on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In its last outing, Georgetown (13-11, 5-8 BE) fell to the visiting Villanova University Wildcats 80-73 at Capital One Arena. Malik Mack tallied 21 points to lead a trio of Hoyas in double digits with Vince Iwuchukwu chipping in 15 and KJ Lewis adding 13. Iwuchuku recorded his third double-double on the year as he grabbed a squad-best 12 rebounds. Mack, who recorded his second-straight 20+ point outing, paced the offense with three assists. 
  • For his efforts in a 1-1 week, Mack was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 20.5 ppg on 44.0% (11-25) shooting from the field and 87.5% (14-16) from the charity stripe to go along with 4.5 rpg and 1.5 apg.
  • On Thursday, Lewis was selected to the watch list for the Slam Dunk Championship as part of the 37th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Friday, April 3.
  • A trio of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 15.1 ppg, followed by Mack (14.5 ppg) and Iwuchukwu (11.4 ppg). Lewis ranks eighth in the BE in scoring while Mack ties for 10th.
  • Iwuchukwu leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 6.0 rpg, followed by Caleb Williams with 5.7 rpg.
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.3 apg, which ties for fifth in the league, followed by Lewis who averages 2.7 apg.
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.17 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE No. 6/5 HUSKIES
  • UConn, ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press poll and No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, enters the matchup with a 23-2 record for the 2025-26 season, including a 13-1 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, UConn defeated Butler 80-70 at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening. Solo Ball led the Huskies in scoring with 24 points. Tarris Reed Jr. followed up with 16 points of his own while Braylon Mullins and Silas Demary Jr. added 15 and 11, respectively, to round out the double-figure scoring. Reed Jr. pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds while Demary Jr. paced the offense with 10 assists for the pair of double-doubles in the game.
  • Ball leads UConn in scoring with 14.5 ppg, followed by Reed Jr. (14.1 ppg), Alex Karaban (13.2 ppg), Braylon Mullins (11.9 ppg) and Demary Jr. (11.2 ppg) to round out those averaging double figures.
  • Reed Jr. is grabbing 7.8 rpg to lead the Huskies on the glass.
  • Demary Jr. and Malachi Smith pace the UConn offense with 6.3 apg and 3.0 apg, respectively.
  • UConn is led by Head Coach Dan Hurley in his seventh season with the Huskies.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and UConn will meet for the 78th time in program history, with the Hoyas trailing 41-36 in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was last month when the Hoyas fell 64-62 at home. Iwuchukwu and Lewis led the Hoyas in scoring with 12 points apiece. Iwuchukwu snagged a team-high 14 boards while Jeremiah Williams paced the offense with five assists.
  • Georgetown's last victory was on January 14, 2017, a 72-69 win at Capital One Arena. A trio of Hoyas scored in double figures, led by L.J. Peak's 21 points. Peak added seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Rodney Pryor Jr. added 14, while Jessie Govan chipped in 15 off the bench.
  • Cooley is 4-12 all-time against UConn and sits at 8-9 against Hurley in his career.
  • The Hoyas are 6-13 all-time against AP No. 6 with the last meeting coming during the 2023-24 season (No. 6 Marquette; L, 81-51) and the last win coming during the 2005-06 postseason (No. 6 Ohio State; W, 70-52 in the NCAA Second Round). 
  • Georgetown has faced UConn as the No. 5 team one other time, an 88-81 loss in the BIG EAST Semifinal (03/11/1995) when the Hoyas were tabbed the No. 24 team in the country.
