Men's Basketball Set for Saturday Clash at Xavier

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to face the Xavier University Musketeers on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff at Cintas Center is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In its last outing, Georgetown (13-15, 5-12 BE) fell short to Marquette, falling 76-60 at Capital One Arena on Tuesday night. Vince Iwuchukwu and Isaiah Abraham came off the bench as the lone Hoyas in double figures. Iwuchukwu tied his career high with 19 points on 66.7% (8-12) shooting from the field. Abraham poured in 13 points of his own that included a 2-for-5 performance from beyond the arc. Iwuchukwu led GU on the glass with seven boards while the trio of Abraham, Caleb Williams and Julius Halaifonua pulled down six apiece. Malik Mack dished out a team-high five assists.
  • Following a medical evaluation, junior guard KJ Lewis will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after he suffered an injury to his left ankle that occurred in the game against Marquette on Tuesday, February 24.
  • A trio of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who ends his season averaging 14.9 ppg, followed by Mack (13.7 ppg) and Iwuchukwu (11.6 ppg). Lewis ranks eighth in the BE in scoring.
  • Iwuchukwu leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 6.0 rpg, followed by C. Williams (5.4 rpg) and Lewis (5.1 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.2 apg, which is fifth in the league, followed by Lewis (2.5 apg) and Jeremiah Williams (2.5 apg).
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.1 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS
  • Xavier enters the matchup with a 13-15 record for the 2025-26 season, including a 5-12 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, Xavier fell on the road to Providence on Wednesday, 94-84. A quartet of Musketeers reached double figures, led by Roddie Anderson III with 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the field. Filip Borovicanin managed 19 points while Jovan Milicevic scored 17 points and Tre Carroll chipped in 15 points. Borovicanin pulled down a squad-best nine rebounds, followed by Milicevic, who grabbed eight. Carroll paced Xavier's offense with three assists.
  • Carroll leads Xavier with 18.5 ppg, followed by Milicevic (12.1 ppg), Malik Messina-Moore (10.9), Anderson III (10.8) and Borovicanin (10.0 ppg) to round out those in double figures.
  • Borovicanin's 7.9 rpg leads the Musketeers on the boards.
  • Borovicanin also paces Xavier's offense with 4.2 apg while Messina-Moore chips in 3.9 apg.
  • Xavier is led by Head Coach Richard Pitino in his first season with the Musketeers.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Xavier will meet for the 31st time in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 7-23 record in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was December 20, 2025 with the Hoyas falling 80-77 at Capital One Arena. Mack led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points, followed by Halaifonua (19) and Lewis (15). J. Williams led the Hoyas on the glass with a team-high seven rebounds while Lewis and C.Williams followed up with six each. J. Williams dished out four assists to pace the offense.
  • The lone win for the Blue & Gray at Cintas Center was an 81-72 victory on January 19, 2016. Tre Campbell led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures followed by D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera chipping in 20 points while LJ Peak and Jessie Govan added 13 apiece. Peak pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double while Smith-Rivera's seven helpers paced the offense.
  • Cooley maintains an 11-15 record against the Musketeers and a 0-2 mark against Pitino.
