WASHINGTON – Record-shattering performances by sophomore
Jaden Marchan and junior
Tinoda Matsatsa highlighted a historic Friday night for the Georgetown University track & field team at the 2026 NCAA East First Round. Both Hoyas punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with program-record times at the UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
"What a day to be a Hoya. Hard to put into words what was witnessed here at the East Regionals. We had some unforgettable performances from our Hoyas competing today.
Jaden Marchan came into the meet as the 47th-fastest qualifier in the region. Two massive PBs later, he is heading to Eugene, having been part of one of the fastest 400m races ever run in NCAA history. That was all heart that can't be coached; he's as tough a competitor as anyone who has put on a Georgetown singlet. To say I'm proud of his performance would be an understatement. It was also very satisfying to see Tinoda get under 1:45 and run a splendid personal best of 1:44.75. Our Seniors certainly deserved to be recognized; in particular, Nick Givan, who's had an amazing final season with three personal bests in his last three races in the 400mH, and the second-fastest time in school history (50.00). Though not fast enough to advance to the NCAA finals, he has made the best of his last year competing as a Hoya. We're looking forward to having our men represent well at the NCAA Championship Final in Eugene. Also excited to see our women close out the meet with some strong efforts on Saturday to earn the right to compete at the NCAA Final." -Head Coach
Alton McKenzie
"The main goal of this meet is to qualify for Eugene but Tinoda running 1:44 and breaking the school record was a nice added bonus. He ran a great race, and we are excited for NCAAs." -Assistant Coach
