WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's soccer team was defeated by Virginia Tech 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss GU drops to 1-2-1 while Virginia Tech improves to 4-0-2.

   •   "This was a disappointing one for us. I never really felt we were in the game for long enough periods. We were always reacting to Virginia Tech and what they were doing. The first part of the second half, we actually came out and we hit the post and hit the crossbar, and we were actually getting on top. Then they got the second goal, which kind of knocked the stuffing out of us and we gave it a try and we got to one goal at the end and we tried to make it interesting after that. But, it's one of these games that we will look back and this could be a turning point in the season, one way or the other. So we've got to try and get ready now for JMU on Thursday night and then a Virginia team here next weekend."
About The MatchÂ
   •   In the 15th minute, Virginia Tech created a dangerous 1-v-1 opportunity against Reiley Fitzpatrick, but the junior goalkeeper came up with a big save to keep the match scoreless.
   •   The Hokies broke through in the 21st minute following a scramble in the six-yard box, as Virginia Tech tapped the ball home to take a 1-0 lead.
   •   Georgetown recorded its first quality chance of the afternoon in the 34th minute when Aliza Mannon found Lizzie Heller inside the box, but Heller's attempt was denied by the Virginia Tech goalkeeper.
   •   Fitzpatrick came up with another big stop late in the half, denying a one-on-one opportunity from the center of the box to keep the Hoyas within one heading into halftime.
   •   Georgetown came out of the break with a pair of dangerous chances, as Abby Droner and Mannon both struck the crossbar within a five-minute span.
   •   Virginia Tech responded to Georgetown's early pressure, doubling its lead in the 54th minute to make it 2-0.
   •   The Hoyas cut the deficit in half in the 70th minute after the Virginia Tech goalkeeper spilled a shot, allowing Maddy Nylen to capitalize and find the back of the net.
   •   Georgetown continued to battle for an equalizer but was unable to complete the comeback, falling to Virginia Tech, 2-1.

   •   Nylen recorded her first career goal.
   •   Fitzpatrick tailled a season high five saves.
