WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's soccer team dropped its conference opener to Xavier on Saturday night at Shaw Field, 4-3. With the result, the Hoyas move to 3-3-2 and the Musketeers improve to 7-2-0.

• "We are very disappointed with the loss tonight. We knew Xavier was a very good team, and they had a lot of attacking weapons and we needed to do a better job of managing that. But we also needed to do a better job of managing moments. We gave up a goal pretty quickly after we tied it up, which is a no no. We gave up a goal early in the second half, which is another no no, which made it 3-1. Then we came out with great fire and great energy and on another night, we actually would have won the game. The team is disappointed. We don't like to lose. We certainly don't like to lose at home and we knew this was a big game. We've come up a little bit short, but we've got nine conference games left, and then we gotta go and see what we can get out of those nine."

• Xavier generated the first quality opportunity six minutes into the match when a Musketeer attacker broke through and fired a shot that rang off the post.
• The Musketeers struck first in the 26th minute, capitalizing on a dangerous corner kick that found the feet of an Xavier attacker to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
• The Hoyas responded just minutes later, as Abby Droner unleashed a shot from outside the box that went bar down to level the match at 1-1.
• Just three minutes later, Xavier answered with another goal to regain the lead and take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
• The Musketeers continued to apply pressure early in the second half, extending their lead in the 47th minute to make it 3-1.
• Droner nearly added another moments later, finding space on the wing before firing a shot that narrowly missed the crossbar.
• After a back-and-forth stretch of play, Xavier extended its advantage to 4-1 with 20 minutes remaining.
• The Hoyas began their comeback with 12 minutes remaining when Sara Chrnelich found space and delivered a perfectly placed ball to Aliza Mannon, who finished to cut the deficit to two.
• Georgetown continued to battle, as Evelyn Casadaban delivered a perfect feed to Mannon, who found the back of the net for the second time on the night to bring the Hoyas within one.
• The Blue & Gray continued to push for the equalizer in the final five minutes, but were unable to find the tying goal, falling to Xavier, 4-3.
