Hoyas Battle to Scoreless Draw Against Marquette

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Marquette on Wednesday night at Shaw Field. With the result, the Hoyas move to 3-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in BIG EAST play, while the Golden Eagles move to 4-1-6 overall and 0-0-2 in conference play.

Head Coach Dave Nolan

  • "Yeah, it was a disappointing result tonight. I didn't feel we really did much in the first half, and then we came out in the second half and switched the light and started to do the things which I wanted them to do, which was to run at them, get the ball behind them, get it out wide, let our wide players cause chaos. Then we had a number of chances, and a little bit unlucky not to get one when we hit the post, and got people into the box, and just didn't quite find that final pass. So we got to get ready now for Villanova on the road on Sunday, and they're a confident team, and they're going to be flying. So our kind of backs to the wall going into Sunday."

About the Match

  • Both teams created opportunities early, but neither side was able to capitalize as the score remained 0-0 through the opening 15 minutes.
  • Georgetown created its first quality chance when Caroline Spengler found space and fired a shot toward goal that narrowly missed wide.
  • Spengler continued to pressure the Golden Eagles' defense, finding space outside the box before sending an attempt just over the crossbar.
  • The final 10 minutes of the opening half were played primarily in the midfield, with the two teams entering halftime scoreless.
  • Six minutes into the second half, the Hoyas continued to apply pressure as Jocelyn Lohmeyer fired an attempt just wide of the goal.
  • Spengler continued to make an impact, beating a pair of defenders inside the box before her shot trickled just wide.
  • Spengler nearly broke the deadlock moments later, beating two defenders before her attempt was tipped wide by the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper.
  • With 12 minutes remaining, Lohmeyer came inches away from giving Georgetown the lead, firing an attempt off the post.
  • Neither team was able to find the breakthrough, as Georgetown and Marquette played to a 0-0 draw.

Notable Stats

  • Spengler recorded a career-high 11 shots in the match.
