WASHINGTON (AP) -- Ruben Boumtje Boumtje scored 18 points, one of five Georgetown players to score in double figures, as the Hoyas defeated Coastal Carolina 85-57 on Thursday.
Georgetown (7-3), which is on a five-game winning streak, went ahead 12-11 early in the first half and never relinquished the lead. After leading 46-36 at halftime, the Hoyas pulled away on a 10-3 run to open the second half.
Matt Gladieux scored 29 points for the Chanticleers (2-8). Gladieux kept Coastal Carolina in the game early by making four consecutive 3-pointers. He scored 21 of the team's 36 points in the first half. Gladieux finished with seven 3-pointers.
Lee Scruggs, a 6-foot-11, 215 pound center from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Community College, made his Georgetown debut against Coastal Carolina.
Scruggs came off the bench at the 15:02 mark of the first half. He scored his first points - he was fouled making a lay-up - eight seconds later. In the 11 minutes he played, Scruggs scored seven points on 3 of 7 shooting. He did not have a rebound.
This was the first meeting between Coastal Carolina and Georgetown.
