TORONTO – In its second round robin game representing the United States at GLOBL JAM, the Georgetown University men's basketball team fell short 65-62 against host Canada at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Thursday night in Toronto, Ontario. With the setback, the Hoyas and Canada now both own a 1-1 record in the round robin portion of the four-team international competition.
ON THE RECORD
"I thought we played really hard. You know, there are going to be days when the ball doesn't go in the basket, right? You know, I thought our energy was good, I thought [Canada's] physicality on the interior - their 54 rebounds to our 36, 15 offensive rebounds - the only thing I'm disappointed in is we didn't get on the offensive glass. Again, we had some good looks - the ball just didn't go in in the second half … I'm not disappointed in our effort, I'm not disappointed in the outcome of the game, I thought we got better today. The reason why we came to this was to improve. And I thought we improved today, we just didn't win the game." - Head Coach
Ed Cooley

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canada got on the board first but Vince Iwuchukwu lined up to drain a 3-pointer to set the tone early. Isaiah Abraham followed up with a trey of his own to put the Hoyas up by a pair of possessions early.
- The game would go back and forth but the Hoyas were able to build a six-point lead (17-11) late in the first quarter before Canada managed an 8-0 run to close the first quarter up 19-17.
- The second stanza started strong for the Hoyas as a pair of Canada free throws was sandwiched between a duo of Williams triples and Abraham followed up with another trey to push the Hoyas ahead 26-21 (7:28).
- The sides would trade points as the first half waned but Canada's Lee knocked down a 3-pointer to send the squads into the locker room with the Hoyas up 40-37 at the break.
- It was a familiar start as Williams sunk his third triple of the game to start the third quarter scoring and give the Blue & Gray a six-point cushion. Canada refused to go away, chipping away until free throws gave the home team a two-point advantage (50-48) before Julius Halaifonua's layup tied up the game once again.
- Canada quickly regained the advantage on the ensuing possession but Jeremiah Williams managed a defensive rebound and ran down the clock before knotting the game at 52 apiece on a floater as the third quarter expired.
- The fourth quarter saw four ties as the teams battled through the first five minutes of the final stanza. Canada finally broke through to take a 61-59 lead with 1:39 to play and led by as many as five (64-59) late. A corner trey from Mack would cut the deficit to two (64-62) with 17.2 seconds on the clock but it was not enough as Canada held on for the 65-62 victory.
