Hoyas Defeat Scarlet Knights, 71-55


WASHINGTON (January 29, 2000) -- Ruben Boumtje Boumtje tied a career high with 19 points and Anthony Perry scored 16 as Georgetown beat Rutgers 71-55 in a Big East Conference game January 29 at the MCI Center.

Rashod Kent came off the bench to lead Rutgers (11-8, 3-4) with 17 points. The Scarlet Knights are winless in three conference road games.

Perry's 3-point play 6:50 into the second half broke a 42-42 tie and ignited an 11-2 run that put the Hoyas (11-8, 3-5) in command. Lee Scruggs had four of his 10 points during the burst, including an alley-oop slam.

Dahntay Jones and Todd Billet each scored 10 points for Rutgers.

Boumtje Boumtje grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hoyas.

After an early 10-3 run by Georgetown, Jones had four points during a 9-2 run by the Scarlet Knights that produced a 16-12 lead with 9:41 remaining in the first half.

Georgetown's defense held Rutgers to four field goals in the final 10:49 of the half and the Hoyas offense finally got going.

Nat Burton's 3-pointer broke a 31-31 tie with 1:17 to go and Georgetown led 36-31 at the half.

The Scarlet Knights finished only 17-for-46 from the field.
