Georgetown Field Hockey Shuts Out LaSalle, 3-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 22, 2000) -- Freshman forward Shelby Samperton (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation) scored the game-winning goal as Georgetown blanked LaSalle, 3-0. The Hoyas improve to 12-4 overall, while the Explorers fall to 3-11 on the season.

Samperton scored her second goal of the season at 6:48. She capitalized on a shot taken by freshman back Elena Elster (Wiesbaden, Germany/Lawrenceville School) that hit the post, knocking in the rebound. Freshman forward Leeanne Rizzo (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored next for Georgetown. She netted her seventh goal of the year at 15:59, converting a pass by senior midfielder Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown). The Hoyas led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Georgetown added to its lead when Rizzo scored her second goal of the game. At 18:56 Rizzo found the back of the net by deflecting Elster's penalty corner shot into the goal.

Junior back Bridget McConnell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) had a defensive save for the Hoyas.

Georgetown sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had four saves, while LaSalle's Julie Hope tallied 11 saves. The Hoyas will continue their homestand as they host Villanova on Wednesday, October 25, at 3 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
