WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 25) - The Georgetown University field hockey team was upended by Villanova University, 2-0, on October 25. The Hoyas are now 12-5 overall, while the Wildcats improve to 10-7 on the season.
Villanova got on the board at 7:22 when Leah Lisausky connected on a penalty corner. Nicole DiMaggio and Colleen Helms assisted on the play. The Wildcats led 1-0 at halftime. Stephanie Vrettos added to Villanova's lead at 43:19, when she netted a goal on a fast break.
The Hoyas outshot Villanova, 34-23, and had two more penalty corners than the Wildcats, but were not able to convert. Junior back Bridget McConnell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day), senior midfielder Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and junior midfielder Aubrey Bruggeman (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) all had defensive saves for the Hoyas.
Georgetown sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had 13 saves, while Villanova's Meghan Helwig tallied 19 saves.
The Hoyas' will celebrate Senior Day as they play their final regular-season game this year. Georgetown will host Bucknell on Saturday, October 28, at 12 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
