WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 25, 2000) -- Georgetown University freshman forward Leeanne Rizzo (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) has been selected Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending October 23. This is the first time this season Rizzo has received this honor, and the second week in a row that a Georgetown player has been selected.
Rizzo earned eight points last week on three goals and two assists in three games. She earned points in each game, tallying two goals in a 3-0 win over LaSalle. Rizzo netted the Hoyas' only goal in a tough double overtime loss to Richmond, 2-1. She added two assists in a come-from-behind victory over Albany, 3-2.
Rizzo is currently second on the team in goals scored (8) and third in scoring (19 points). She has scored in seven games, earned points in eight games and had multiple points in three games this season. Rizzo also scored the game-winning goals against Siena, Davidson and Virginia Commonwealth.
The Hoyas are currently 12-4 overall, tying the school record for most wins in a season. As a team, Georgetown is ranked fifth in the nation in scoring defense (1.05), tenth in winning percentage (0.750), 12th in margin of victory (1.65) and 14th in scoring offense (2.70).
The Hoyas will continue their homestand as they host Villanova on Wednesday, October 25, at 3 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
