Box Score TotalCast Stats! WASHINGTON (AP) (Feb. 1) -- Lee Scruggs, making his second start of the season, had a career-high 21 points and a career-high nine rebounds to lead Georgetown to a 61-59 non-conference victory against Louisville.
The Cardinals (11-9), who had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, squandered a 10-point lead in the second half to lose their fourth game in a row.
Louisville's last chance to win the game fell short when Tony Williams' three-point shot from the right baseline caroomed off the front of the rim as time expired.
The Hoyas (12-8) went ahead 60-59 on a 15-foot jump shot by Anthony Perry, his only two points of the game. On Louisville's next possesion, Marques Maybin had his shot blocked by Nat Burton. Ruben Boumtje Boumtje secured the loose ball but was fouled by Hopper. Boumtje Boumtje made one of two free throws to give Georgetown a 61-59 lead.
Georgetown used its height advantage to overcome its poor shooting. The Hoyas suffered their worst shooting night of the season, making only 19 of their 66 shot attempts or 28.8 percent.
The 6-foot-11 Scruggs, a junior college transfer who had missed the first semester while finishing his coursework at Daytona (Fla.) Community College, and the 6-11 Boumtje Boumtje (19 points, nine rebounds) were a formidable matchup for Louisville. The Cardinals had no player on their roster taller than 6-foot-9.
Tobiah Hopper scored 13 points to lead the Cardinals.
Louisville held the lead most of the first half and was ahead 34-30 at halftime despite a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Scruggs to end the half.
Georgetown tied the score at 34 on baskets by Scruggs and Boumtje Boumje. Then the Cardinals used a 12-2 run to pull ahead 46-36.
But the Hoyas mounted a comeback on the strength of their free throw shooting. Georgetown made 11 of 14 free throws during a seven minute stretch to cut Louisville's lead to 54-51.
