PITTSBURGH (AP) - (Feb. 13) Kevin Braswell scored 29 points, tying a career high, and hit five key free throws down the stretch to help Georgetown stave off a furious comeback by Pittsburgh and win 72-65 in a Big East matchup on Sunday.
Braswell hit the five free throws in the last 1:10 after Pittsburgh had come back from a 19-point Georgetown lead to be just four down with 1:22 to go.
Ruben Boumtje Boumtje scored 27 points and had seven of Georgetown's 12 points early in the second half to help the Hoyas open a 45-31 lead.
The Hoyas (14-10, 4-7) twice held 19-point leads - with 10:20 and 9:41 to go - on a 3-pointer by Braswell and a layup by Boumtje Boumtje.
But Pittsburgh went on a 14-2 run highlighted by 10 points from Brandin Knight, who overcame a shooting slump and finished with a career-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers.
Georgetown, behind five points from Braswell and a dunk by Boumtje Boumtje, climbed back into a 66-55 lead with 3:04 to go. But Pittsburgh again picked up the tempo with five points from Knight contributing to an 8-1 run and 67-63 deficit with 1:22 remaining.
Braswell was able to convert from the free throw line to seal the win.
The Panthers (10-11, 2-8) were playing with just eight players after coach Ben Howland dismissed senior guard Kellii Taylor for violating team rules.
