WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 10, 2000) --
Elena Elster (Wiesbaden, Germany/Lawrenceville School) scored twice and
Aubrey Bruggeman (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) had three assists as Georgetown's field hockey team defeated Appalachian State University, 4-1. With four straight wins, the Hoyas are off to their best start ever under head coach Laurie Carroll.
Georgetown scored first as Elster connected at 12:34 off an assist from Shelby Samperton (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation). Appalachian State University then scored its only goal of the game at 35:00. Merideth White was able to convert on a penalty corner that the Mountaineers were allowed to take with no time left on the clock. At halftime the score was knotted at one.
In the second half the Hoyas took control, scoring three more goals. Michaela Brown (Bronx, N.Y./Pomfret School) netted her first goal of the season at 45:10 off an assist from Bruggeman. Leeanne Rizzo (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was next to score, connecting on Bruggeman's second assist at 57:24. Elster scored the final goal of the game, and her second of the night, at 65:23. Assisting on the goal were Bruggeman and Sarah Oglesby (Baltimore, Md./St. Pauls School for Girls).
Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had four saves for the Hoyas and Malia Swieconek had seven saves for the Mountaineers. The Georgetown field hockey team will be in action again as they host Ursinus College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 15, at Kehoe Field.
