WASHINGTON, D.C. Georgetown's
Leeanne Rizzo (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal as the Hoyas defeated Davidson, 2-1. Georgetown's field hockey team is now 3-0.
The Hoyas scored first as senior midfielder Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) netted her second goal of the season at 29.09. Rizzo, a freshman, scored her second of the season at 58:35.
The Wildcats had three penalty strokes in the second half, but were only able to connect on one. Jennie Gold scored for Davidson at 61:32, on the team's third penalty stroke.
Georgetown goalkeeper Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had 13 saves, including two stopped penalty strokes, to get her third win this year. Amanda Mordavsky had seven saves for Davidson.
Georgetown's field hockey team will be in action again as they play Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., on Sunday at 1 p.m.
