WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 20) - For the second straight game, freshman back Elena Elster (Wiesbaden, Germany/Lawrenceville School) scored the game-winning goal as the Hoyas edged out Towson, 2-1, on Sept. 20. With this victory, Georgetown is 6-0, and remains undefeated.
The Hoyas wasted no time getting on the board as senior midfielder Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) connected on an assist from Elster in the sixth minute. McLean now has three goals this season. Junior back Bridget McConnell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played great defense and had a key defensive save in the first half, her second of the season.
In the second half the Tigers tied the game at two after converting a penalty corner. However, the Hoyas showed they did not want to tarnish their perfect record, and fought back. At 60:56, Elster scored the game-winner on a penalty corner set up by senior midfielder Sarah Oglesby (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and junior midfielder Aubrey Bruggeman (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair). Elster currently leads the team in scoring with 12 points on five goals and two assists.
Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had two saves for the Hoyas and Betsy Crossman tallied eight saves for the Tigers.
The Hoyas will be in action again as they play in Philadelphia at Temple University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.
